Saturday's match between India and Australia at the Arun Jaitley was an absolute run-fest. Having been given a challenging task of chasing down giant 413, the Indian team replied with flair, as Smriti Mandhana took the fastest ever century by an Indian, in just 50 balls. This is also the second-quickest ever in women's ODIs, with Meg Lanning reaching the mark in 45 balls. But the most astonishing fact is, her 50-ball century is the quickest by an Indian, men's cricket included. The men's Indian record is that of Virat Kohli, who made 100 in 52 deliveries against Australia in Jaipur, in 2013. Earlier during the day, Aussie batter had gone on to make her ton in 57 deliveries as well, and went on to make 138 in 75 balls finally. While, talking about Smriti Mandhana's masterclass now, she went to make a second successive 100 in the series against Australia. Also, this is the second time she has gone on to make successive 100s. Now, she is lagging behind Lanning, who has more 100s (15) than her, and is equal with New Zealand's Suzie Bates. Also, this is her fourth century this year, and has achieved this for the second time in her career. That is the record of most by any player ever. Smriti Mandhana's breathtaking innings on Saturday was a personal achievement, but a landmark moment in Indian cricket history. Her record-breaking 50-ball hundred across both men's and women's cricket in India demonstrated her unparalleled skills as an opener. With this being her second century in a row in the series and her 13th in total, she is still topping the charts as one of the game's most consistent performers. Her performance in 2025 has been wonderful, and with four centuries already this season, she is definitely at the peak of her career.
