The Proteas youngster Dewald Brevis did have an explosive first ball on his ODI debut but walked out, giving an easy catch in the very next ball. Brevis was dismissed after attempting an aggressive shot that didn’t quite come off. The delivery was tossed up outside the off stump, and Brevis went down on one knee to play a slog sweep over the long-on boundary. However, he failed to get the desired connection, striking the ball off the toe end of the bat. As a result, it lacked the power and elevation needed to clear the ropes, falling about five meters short. Positioned perfectly at long-on, Carey remained composed and completed a safe catch, ending Brevis’s innings.
