Arshdeep Singh has spoken about the guidance he received from Mohammed Siraj during a challenging period on India’s recent tour of England. The left-arm pacer spent the entirety of the five-Test series on the sidelines, even as Siraj featured in every match and injuries affected other pacers, including concerns over Jasprit Bumrah’s workload. Adding to the difficulty, Arshdeep sustained a left thumb injury that ruled him out of the fourth and fifth Tests. The combination of no playing time and injury tested his mental resilience. Now back in action for North Zone in the ongoing Duleep Trophy clash against East Zone in Bengaluru, Arshdeep has found ways to navigate such phases. Speaking to the sidelines, Arshdeep said, “Mentally, in the last two months, I have learnt how to enjoy the boring time. In Test cricket or red-ball matches, there is a time when the work gets boring. Like the session after lunch, the ball doesn’t do anything… how can you enjoy that?” Read also: Reports: Pat Cummins to Skip New Zealand T20Is Before Ashes Red-Ball Lessons and Team Focus Arshdeep credited Siraj for a key lesson on patience and enjoyment in cricket’s slower moments. He said, “I spoke to Siraj, he told me that when nothing is happening, how you enjoy that phase will tell you how successful you can be in red-ball cricket. He gave me this small tip and I really liked it." In the Duleep Trophy, North Zone built a massive lead of 563 runs with eight wickets in hand in their second innings, following a collapse where East Zone lost six wickets for just 30 runs. Arshdeep added, “The same thing happened here. They (East Zone) were just down four wickets and the ball wasn’t doing anything. So, that was the main motive… how to enjoy each other’s company. That’s how the results came." Looking ahead, Arshdeep will join India’s squad in the UAE for the Asia Cup, which begins on September 9, with the team facing the UAE in the opening match on September 10.
