Pakistan player Sidra Amin has been officially warned by the International Cricket Council (ICC) and issued one demerit point for violating Level 1 of the ICC Code of Conduct in the Women's World Cup 2025 match against India at the R Premadasa Stadium, Colombo, on Sunday. Amin, who led the way for Pakistan with a gallant 81 off 106 balls, was visibly frustrated after being out. As per the ICC, she contravened Article 2.2, which deals with the "abuse of cricket equipment or clothing, ground equipment or fixtures and fittings during an International Match." Incident in the 40th Over The incident occurred during the 40th over of Pakistan's innings when Sidra Amin was sent back by Indian spinner Sneh Rana. Upon walking back, Amin aggressively struck her bat on the pitch, an action that caught the attention of on-field umpires Lauren Agenbag and Nimali Perera, third umpire Kerrin Klaaste, and fourth umpire Kim Cotton. Because it was the first offence within a 24-month period, a formal hearing was not necessary, and the sanction was decided on the spot. The ICC affirmed: “In addition to this, one demerit point has been added to her disciplinary record, for whom it was the first offence in a 24-month period.” A Level 1 offence is punishable by a minimum of an official reprimand and a maximum of 50% of a player's match fee, plus one or two demerit points. Pakistan's Struggles Continue Despite of Sidra Amin's gritty performance with the bat, Pakistan batting order struggled against India's well-disciplined bowling unit. Set to chase a total of 248 runs, Pakistan were bundled out for 159, losing by 88 runs. The loss still sees Pakistan remain in search for their first victory in the ongoing Women's World Cup after they had also lost to Bangladesh in the early stages of the competition. They have a challenging task ahead against Australia Women on October 8, as they seek to recover from back-to-back defeats. Sidra Amin's innings, notwithstanding the disciplinary controversy, was one of the limited bright spots for Pakistan in an otherwise disappointing outing.
