As the dates for the upcoming Asia Cup 2025 draw near, the excitement for this T20 tournament is already at its peak. The Indian National Cricket Team is yet to announce their squad for the tournament. The tournament will commence on September 9 in the UAE. The latest reports have emerged to claim that the Indian Test team captain, Shubman Gill, is not a confirmed participant for this marquee event. It has been reported that Gill will struggle to make his place in the squad. He is one of the finest batters in world cricket currently, and can play and score runs in any given conditions. For him to be included in the team, there will need to be adjustments required in the top three, which have already been equipped by Sanju Samson, Abhishek Sharma and Tilak Varma in the T20Is. The captain and coach duo have been focusing more on the continuity of the players for the long term. As reported by RevSportz: “Sources close to developments say that Sanju Samson has scored three hundreds in his last 10 T20Is and has done well as an opener. It wouldn’t be fair to push him down the order and accommodate Gill. Abhishek Sharma is the number-one ranked T20 batter in the world while Tilak Varma is the second-ranked batter. India, under Gautam Gambhir and Suryakumar Yadav, has sought to give clarity and continuity to the players. In fact, even Gill had spoken about continuity in England in the red-ball format and that’s what could now be a feature of Indian cricket going forward.” The report further states that the Indian Premier League (IPL) performance should not be a criterion for selection, and the inclusion of Shubman Gill will do injustice to other players who have better records on paper than him.
