Team India might undergo a huge transformation in their Asia Cup 2025 team with Shubman Gill's return potentially coming at the cost of star left-hander Rinku Singh. Rinku's selection for the UAE tournament is not confirmed, says a PTI report. Rinku Singh Likely to Miss Out Rinku Singh found fame in IPL 2023 when he hit five consecutive sixes off Yash Dayal to lead KKR to a nail-biting win. For this performance, he was included in India's T20I and ODI squad, and he started off with consistent performances. But his form declined, resulting in his exclusion from the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024 team. Since then, his career has not picked up pace. In IPL 2025, he managed a meager 206 runs and did not receive regular playing opportunities. India's team for the Asia Cup 2025 is due to be announced anytime, but Gill's potential selection has raised eyebrows. Rumor suggests that Rinku's spot might be under threat, particularly with Gautam Gambhir reportedly favoring players who are capable of contributing more than one skill. If so, India might opt for Shivam Dube, who can bowl, or Jitesh Sharma, who is an alternate wicketkeeper. Even talented cricketers like Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill are not automatic choices. A former BCCI selector told PTI: "We often hear people saying, one should pick so and so but no one would be able to definitively tell us 'in place of whom'? Shreyas Iyer has 600 runs at a strike-rate of 180 but he bats in top four. Where is the place for him. Even as you include Shubman as he is flavour of the season, where do you cut corners." He added: "You can't disturb your top five right now and also pick Shubman. And if you pick Shubman now, obviously the Test captain and IPL team captain won't sit out. So where do you make the compromise? I only see Rinku's spot being iffy as he isn't required as much some of the top order batters. And mind it, we aren't even talking about Jaiswal." India, who are in Group A, will start their campaign against UAE on September 10, play Pakistan on September 14, followed by Oman on September 19 in their final group-stage match.
