India sealed the three-match ODI series against Afghanistan with a commanding 170-run victory in the second ODI at the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow on Wednesday. Captain Shubman Gill led from the front with a magnificent 154, while Ishan Kishan struck a blistering century as India piled up 402. In the second innings, vice-captain Shreyas Iyer impressed as a stand-in captain on the field, rotating his bowlers smartly and ensuring Afghanistan never gained momentum in the daunting chase. Gill and Kishan power India beyond 400 After Afghanistan chose to field first, India suffered an early setback when Yashasvi Jaiswal departed for four. However, Rohit Sharma and Gill steadied the innings with a 87-run partnership. Rohit looked in fluent touch during his 48 off 39 balls before Rashid Khan broke the stand. The innings then belonged to Gill and Kishan. The pair stitched together a massive 224-run stand for the third wicket, putting Afghanistan under relentless pressure. Gill mixed elegance with aggression in his 154 off 110 deliveries, smashing 22 fours and two sixes. Kishan matched the tempo at the other end, hammering 125 from just 79 balls, including 14 boundaries and seven sixes. Their partnership carried India to 320 before Kishan fell in the 37th over. Gill continued to dominate and reached 150 off only 108 balls. Contributions from Shreyas Iyer (26) and Washington Sundar (19) helped India cross the 400-run mark, eventually finishing on 402 in 49.5 overs. Nangeyalia Kharote was Afghanistan’s most successful bowler with figures of 4/76, while Rashid Khan claimed 3/48. Read also: Prince Yadav gets his first international prey! India gradually tightened the screws as Gurnoor Brar dismissed Gurbaz before Arshdeep Singh removed Ibrahim Zadran for 21. Sediqullah Atal contributed 42, while Rahmat Shah fought a lone battle with 79 off 89 balls. However, regular wickets prevented Afghanistan from building substantial partnerships.
