Star India batter Shubman Gill, who was omitted from selection into India's T20 World Cup 2024 squad, has been given rest for the three upcoming T20I matches against Bangladesh in October. After the two Tests against Bangladesh beginning from September 19 in Chennai, India will play three T20Is in Gwalior on October 6, Delhi on October 9 and Hyderabad on October 12. On 15 September, there was a report that the squad will retain some of the key players such as Gill for rest before the hectic season begins. The list includes a home Test series against New Zealand and a five-Test series in Australia. A BCCI source said: "Yes, Shubman will be rested for the Bangladesh T20I series. If you look at the fixture, the three T20Is will be played on October 7 (Gwalior), 10 (Delhi), and 13 (Hyderabad). Now the first Test vs New Zealand starts October 16. "So with a turnaround of three days, it is important to give Gill a break." The Test players, including fast bowling pair Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj, are expected not to be seen during the T20I series for workload management. Besides, there is a chance that Rishabh Pant will be rested so that he remains fresh for the Test matches. If Pant gets rested then, it could be Ishan Kishan's chance. Ishan had played during the ODI World Cup last year and, recently scored a hundred in a Duleep Trophy match, looking in good form. Also Read | List of Test Matches Abandoned Without a Ball Bowled
