The T20I vice captain of India, Shubman Gill, has landed in Bhubneshwar, sparking questions- is he fully fit for the T20I series against South Africa? Notably, Gill was spotted at Bhubaneshwar with the team, for the series starting on December 9, at Cuttack's Barabati Stadium. After India defeated South Africa in the third ODI at Raipur, India head coach Gautam Gambhir confirmed that Gill is fully fit, and that is why he is selected in the squad. However, as per BCCI's clarification, Gill's availability for the first T20I is subject to fitness. What happened to Shubman Gill? Notably, the Indian Test captain has suffered from Test stiffness and thus left the field retired hurt in the first Test at Eden Gardens against South Africa. He was admitted to the ICU in a hospital in Kolkata but was released the next day. Gill did not play the second Test in Guwahati and even missed the ODI series that followed. Even though he initially accompanied the team to Guwahati to give a moral boost to the team, he then flew back to Mumbai to visit a spine specialist. However, later, when India announced the T20I squad against South Africa, it was clear that the management was counting him in for the T20 series.
