Indian skipper Shubman Gill created history on Day 1 of the ongoing fifth Test of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 2025. The 25-year-old Indian captain walked out to bat in the 16th over after the early wickets of Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul. The pitch was tricky, and England had chosen to bowl first. Despite of the challenging conditions, Gill played calmly. He scored 15 runs in 23 balls before lunch. Rain thereafter created a long interruption in the match. Once play resumed again, Gill lost his wicket in the form of run out for 21 runs in 35 balls. But before his dismissal, he had already etched his name in the record books. Gill Shatters Gary Sobers' Long-standing World Record With his first spell of the day, Shubman Gill shattered a 59-year-old world record of the great Gary Sobers. He is now the record holder for runs by a visiting captain in a Test series. Gill has made 743 runs in nine innings on this tour at an incredible average of 82.55, with four centuries to his credit. This is also the record for most centuries by a visiting captain in a Test series. That is not all. Gill's four centuries are the joint-most by a captain in a single Test series. He now joins the club of two legends, Sunil Gavaskar and Don Bradman.
