India's Shubman Gill has dethroned Babar Azam to become the world’s No. 1 ODI batter in the latest ICC rankings. His stellar performance in the recent three-match series against England propelled him to the top. In the England series, Shubman amassed 259 runs, including a century and two fifties, averaging an impressive 86.33. Last week, he was just five points behind Babar. On February 19, while Babar lost 13 points, Shubman gained 15, surpassing the Pakistan star. With the Champions Trophy 2025 approaching, India will hope Shubman continues his dominant run in the 50-over format. Head coach Gautam Gambhir recently praised the young batter, attributing his consistency to his new vice-captaincy role. Now at 796 points, Shubman has officially taken the crown, leaving Babar at 773. His rise marks a significant moment in Indian cricket, signaling the emergence of a new ODI batting powerhouse ahead of a crucial tournament.
