10, 9, 82, 0, 7, and 6 - these scores are the synopsis of the performances of Shreyas Iyer in IPL 2025 over the last six innings. One good performance in six matches does not justify ₹26.75 crores. Iyer's captaincy has been astute, and the Punjab Kings (PBKS) are enjoying a dream season, but his bat has been uncharacteristically silent. Fresh arrival in PBKS, winning five games from their first seven, is almost at the possible edge of collating closer playoff placement. Massive - really for the team which hasn't made it over for more than ten years- but with Iyer misfiring at the crucial juncture. Iyer started his season with a bang, first almost single-handedly winning the match with a brilliant knock of 97* in the opening game and following it up with yet another unbeaten fifty. But ever since then, he has had little luck with the bat. In his last six innings, he has scraped together only 114 runs at an innate average of just 19.00. Exclude his innings against SRH for 82. That leaves just 32 runs in five innings. His lean streak also seems to resemble PBKS' challenges in the middle order, with young openers such as Priyansh Arya and Prabhsimran Singh getting raving reviews while all the overseas players in the middle order failing to deliver, making Marcus Stoinis, Glenn Maxwell, and Josh Inglis the trio of under-16-month players in their average. In Bengaluru, they collapsed from 52/2 to 81/5 and then again went from 42/0 to 114/6. Their score of 111 all out against KKR is still fresh in the memory. Even Priyansh Arya made his brilliant century against CSK when the team was actually sitting at 83/5. Shreyas Iyer in Mullanpur at IPL 2025: Inn Runs Av. SR 4 25 6.25 104
