Shreyas Iyer, who is performing impressively in this season of Ranji Trophy 2024-25, desires to play in the upcoming BGT. Iyer, who is not a part of the regular Test squad has been grinding hard in the Indian domestic tournament to get his form back. The right-handed batter has been out of India's cricket squad since the England tour and even lost his BCCI central contract after declining to play domestic cricket for Mumbai last season. However, this Mumbai player is making waves with standout performances in the ongoing domestic season. Still, he remains hopeful for his chance. In a recent Ranji Trophy match against Maharashtra, he scored an impressive 142 in the first innings, helping Mumbai secure a nine-wicket victory. On the prospect of playing in Australia, Iyer shared that it will be a demanding and intense challenge. He’s well aware of the difficulties of competing Down Under but is preparing himself to face them head-on, should the chance arise. As quoted by News18, Iyer said: “Playing in Australia, especially in a Border-Gavaskar series, is one of the biggest challenges in cricket. The conditions, the rivalry, and the intensity demand everything from you, and these are the moments you want to be part of as a cricketer. I’m preparing myself to grab that opportunity and leave a mark.” Shreyas Iyer's place in the team remains uncertain as he works to improve his consistency and performance. Although the BCCI has yet to announce the squad for the BGT 2024-25, it is expected to release it soon.
