Shreyas Iyer suffered another heartbreak as SoBo Mumbai Falcons, led by the India star, suffered a five-wicket loss to Siddesh Lad's Mumbai South Central Maratha Royals in the T20 Mumbai League final at Wankhede on June 12. Just nine days earlier, Iyer’s Punjab Kings were defeated in the 2025 IPL final by Royal Challengers Bengaluru. Chasing 158, South Central got the job done in 19.2 overs. Iyer, who walked in at No. 3, failed again on the big night. He managed a few attacking strokes, but lacked rhythm and consistency. The Falcons were 42/4 at one point, before a rescue act by Mayuresh Tandel and Harsh Aghav pulled them to 157. The pair stitched 85 runs off 49 balls for the fifth wicket. Tandel’s 50 off 32 balls and Aghav’s 45 off 28 helped the Falcons finish strong. Earlier, opener Angkrish Raghuvanshi fell for 7. Ishan Mulchandani also failed to make an impact. Vaibhav Mali stood out for South Central with 2 wickets in his four-over spell. The momentum, however, stayed with the Royals as they came out to chase with intent. Though both departed early, their aggression set the tone. Siddesh fell for 15 while Sahil added a quick 22. At 42 for 2, the chase slowed but didn’t derail. Chinmay Sutar played the anchor’s role with a composed 53 off 49 balls. Awais Naushad Khan added the final flourish, slamming 38 off 24 to wrap up the target. India captain Rohit Sharma, attending as T20 Mumbai league ambassador, handed over the runners-up prize to a visibly dejected Iyer post-match. Speaking in the post-match presentation, Iyer said, "It's pretty hectic. Especially when you lose, it runs in your mind a lot." He added, "Don't want to pinpoint any particular incident. Overall, the boys were brilliant with their efforts. We lost just one game en route to the final. Just a one-off game where you can't single out anyone - it's basically backstabbing and I don't enjoy that. We've learnt a lot. "It's pretty common to feel dejected after a final loss. It must hurt them. But when they come back next year, they'll have that extra motivation and confidence. They should be proud of their effort."
