Shreyas Iyer and Shardul Thakur will play in the Irani Cup game as Mumbai is set to take on Rest of India. The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) has not yet announced its full squad for the match, which will be held in Lucknow from October 1 to 5. Ajinkya Rahane will lead the team as he had helped his side win their 42nd Ranji Trophy earlier this year. Return of Shardul Thakur will be a big boost for Mumbai as the all-rounder strengthens both the bowling as well as the batting lineup. He has not played since June as he was operated on his ankle. Played recently in the KSCA tournament, he assured of coming for the five-day first-class match, said an official of MCA. MCA is expected to issue a complete team soon. For Shreyas Iyer, who waits for a comeback into the Indian side, it will be a good opportunity to prove his worth in the Irani Cup. Iyer missed making it to the Indian Test side against Bangladesh but wants to prove himself again. He was last seen representing India in an ODI against Sri Lanka and led India D during the Duleep Trophy recently. This could be the most crucial match for him because it helps him to regain a place in the Indian team for the upcoming international matches.
