Indian batter Shreyas Iyer was on Friday discharged from a Sydney hospital after recovering from a spleen injury that saw him miss the remainder of the ODI series against Australia, starting with the third match on October 25, 2025. The Board of Control for Cricket in India confirmed that Iyer, who is now stable, will be recuperating further before flying back to India. The Injury and Immediate Treatment Iyer suffered the injury while trying to catch Alex Carey off Harshit Rana’s bowling. The 30-year-old fell awkwardly on his left side while diving backward from point as he held onto a tough catch, injuring his spleen and rib cage in the process. He felt pain immediately and was helped off the field by the Indian medical staff before being rushed to the hospital for further evaluation. Medical reports later confirmed that Iyer had sustained a laceration on his spleen, causing internal bleeding. He was kept under close observation in the ICU and underwent a minor procedure to stop the bleeding. The BCCI in its official statement said: "The injury was promptly identified, and the bleeding was immediately arrested following a minor procedure. He has undergone appropriate medical management for the same." Also Read | How Many Times Have India Women Reached the ICC ODI World Cup Final?
