Shreyas Iyer, the middle-order star, is currently playing in the ODI format only. However, according to a report of the Times of India, Iyer might be picked for the Asia Cup 2025, which will be played in the T20 format in the UAE. Not only that, reports are further suggesting that Iyer is likely to be selected for the West Indies and South Africa Test series too. A source close to the BCCI told the TOI that India is lacking the required consistency in the middle order. And Shreyas is believed to provide that. The source said, “We need Iyer’s class and experience in the middle order in all formats. It’s something which we missed in England during the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy. The selectors are aware that Iyer is an excellent player of spin bowling, which will be crucial in a home season that involves four Tests — two each against the West Indies and South Africa." Notably, Iyer played his last t20 in December 2023 against Australia, while his last Test came in February 2024 at Vishakhapatnam against England. Notably, Shreyas Iyer has played 51 T20Is for India since his debut in 2017, scoring 1104 runs with eight fifties. In Tests, he has 811 runs from 14 matches, including a debut century against New Zealand in 2021.
