Shreyanka Patil an all-rounder for India has been candid about the most difficult period of her career to date saying that she battled depression and considered giving up the sport altogether during a long spell on the sidelines with injury. The 22 year-old was out of action for a total of 16 months with a series of injuries which stalled her progress at both domestic and international level and having recovered from the difficult spell she has made a strong return to the national team. Shreyanka suffered her initial fractured finger during the Asia Cup but recovered to represent India at the Women's T20 World Cup 2024 in the UAE although her comeback would not last long. Shortly after being included in the squad she was ruled out with a grade 3 shin splints injury in both legs which forced her out of action for several months and with it her entire participation in WPL 2025 for Royal Challengers Bengaluru. Family Support Help Shreyanka Through Her Tough Times Speaking after India's 64-run victory over Pakistan at the Women's T20 World Cup 2026, Shreyanka revealed that the lengthy absence from the sport took its toll on her mentally: Shreyanka told JioStar : "I'd be lying if I said I wasn't depressed or if I didn't feel like I wanted to quit the sport. It was the feeling I got at the beginning of the injury spell. There was a voice in my head which said 'No matter what, I love this game so much; I'm here because I love this sport' She added : "I just couldn't quit something I love playing so much. So, I kept my head high, kept talking to my dad, kept talking to my family and there was so much support around me and there were great people around me, which kept me going," Shreyanka paid tribute to her dad and family, which she credits with her positive outlook on life, saying that they kept her on track during this difficult time: Also Read | Is Vaibhav Sooryavanshi in Danger of a Ban Before His International Debut? Strong Comeback For India Shreyanka returned to international cricket with India in a T20I series against Australia earlier this year, where she made her return in style and took Man of the Match in the final match of the series at the Adelaide Oval She now provides a key bowling option for India at the Women's T20 World Cup: She went wicketless against Pakistan on Sunday although her spell of 3-0-17-0 put the brakes on the opposition's progress and also put in a great performance in the field to take a sharp diving catch which dismissed Rameen Shamim. Shreyanka will be hoping to play a vital role for India over the course of their group matches against Australia and South Africa and her comeback from injury and depression has been one of the stories of women's cricket.
