The ICC Women’s ODI World Cup 2025 is all set to kick off on September 30 in India, and the excitement is already building. In a light-hearted moment ahead of the tournament, Australian captain Alyssa Healy made a special request to Indian cricket fans, to turn up in MS Dhoni’s Chennai Super Kings (CSK) jersey to support Australia. Since CSK and Australia both have yellow kits, Healy facetiously told the audience that they could pretend to cheer for the Aussies but be silently expressing love for Dhoni. Healy's Humorous Plea to Indian Fans Addressing the captain's day media conference, Healy stated: "I’d really like to encourage the Indian fans to show up in their Chennai MS Dhoni shirts because they’re yellow. That would be great. Yeah, so show up in that, have some yellow in the crowd, that would be nice." Even though none of Australia’s matches will be played in Chennai, Dhoni’s fanbase stretches across India. The seven-time World Cup winners will play their league fixtures in Colombo, Indore, and Visakhapatnam. With Dhoni’s popularity unmatched, Healy’s light-hearted suggestion may just see Indian stands painted yellow in support. She poured cold water over suggestions that Australia has a path of least resistance to success. Healy added: "I don’t think it gets any easier. I feel like you have labelled us favourites, so thanks for that. But I don’t necessarily think that’s the case." While conceding India's strength at home, she added: "I think India in their home conditions are going to be really, really tough to beat, along with a couple of captains sitting alongside. So it doesn’t get any easier. I think this ODI World Cup is going to be one of the strongest ones that I have been a part of." "I don’t think it’s quite in Australian culture to get too complacent about things at any point in time. People tend to write more about us when we lose than when we actually win, so it’s quite a nice thing to experience." She also complimented her team's mindset: “I feel like I’m part of a really special group at the moment that wants to be better every single day. That mindset is already in place, it just allows them to go out there and enjoy their cricket on the field. That’s basically as simple as it gets. We go out there, we compete as hard as we possibly can and hopefully the results go our way.” Record seven-time winners of the Women's ODI World Cup, Australia will begin their campaign against New Zealand on October 1 at the Holkar Cricket Stadium, Indore. With a combination of experience and youth, they will look to retain their title but are up against stiff competition from hosts India and other powerhouse teams.
