Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) faced heavy criticism after another dismal batting performance at their home in IPL 2025, this time in a shortened 14-over match against Punjab Kings. While PBKS chased down the target comfortably, former India opener Virender Sehwag did not hold back while assessing the RCB batters' lack of application. “RCB batted poorly. All of them played reckless shots to get out. Not a single batter was out to a good ball. At least one batter should've used common sense,” Sehwag said on Cricbuzz. He believed that the team could have got to a competitive total if someone had shown game awareness in tough conditions. “If they had wickets in hand, they could have reached 110 or 120 in 14 overs, which would have given them a chance to fight,” Sehwag added. He further criticised the batters for not respecting the conditions or the bowling. “There is a difference between getting wickets and earning wickets.” RCB managed to score 95/9 in their 14 overs on Saturday. The home side was 42/7 at one point, before Tim David rescued them with an unbeaten 25-ball 50. ‘Why are their batters faltering regularly at home?’ While the team’s bowling unit has shown signs of improvement, RCB’s inability to perform with the bat at their home ground, the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, has raised serious questions. Also Read: WATCH: Ashwin says “Shhh” as panelist brings up MS Dhoni name The team has lost three consecutive matches at home now. Though they find themselves in the fourth spot, they have yet to win a match at Bengaluru. Sehwag pointed out the worrying trend of repeated failures at home, asking the team’s top-order to step up. “Patidar has to think and come up with a solution. They have not been winning at home. Their bowlers are doing well, but why are their batters faltering regularly?” Sehwag questioned. He stressed that repeated collapses on familiar pitches are unacceptable in a tournament as competitive as the IPL. “It’s not alright if your batters continuously fail at home. Who is going to rectify that?” Sehwag asked. RCB will meet PBKS once again, but this time at Mullanpur. The three-time finalists, who have won all their away matches, will look to seal this one as well.
