Former India cricketer Manoj Tiwary has made a bold statement about MS Dhoni’s current form in the ongoing Indian Premier League. Speaking to Cricbuzz, the former Indian batter said that Dhoni should have retired after IPL 2023, where CSK won the title. The comment came in the wake of another below-par performance from Dhoni recently against Delhi Capitals. Batting at No. 7, Dhoni scored an unbeaten 30 off 26 balls, hitting just one six and a boundary. Despite putting together an 84-run partnership with Vijay Shankar for the sixth wicket, CSK fell short by 25 runs. Now, CSK had lost three out of their four matches. Notably, this is also their second loss in a row at home. Speaking to Cricbuzz, he explained why he believes the 2023 season should have been Dhoni’s last. “Forgive me if I'm being a little strict here. He should have retired after the 2023 IPL; it was his best time. With all the respect he has earned over the years, fans have not been able to see him in the last two years, and he is getting lost. Look at how the Chennai fans are reacting, coming out on the roads and giving those interviews,” he said. 'Nothing is working for the team' Tiwary also found it difficult to wrap his head around CSK head coach Stephen Fleming’s explanation regarding Dhoni’s restricted batting role. Earlier, Fleming had mentioned that Dhoni's knee is not the same anymore, and he decides his batting entry point. "Coach Stephen Fleming also said Dhoni cannot bat more than 10 overs. But I can't understand... when you can field for more than 20 overs, where you have to sit up and down, dive to take catches, make runouts, then your knee doesn't hurt, but when it comes to helping the team win, you talk about 10 overs", he said. He also mentioned how all the decisions in the team are taken around Dhoni's fitness and how nothing is currently working for the team. "All the decisions are being taken around him, but nothing is working for the team. I feel they should take a strong call and make him understand that it's not working and that he should leave," he added. After their loss to Delhi Capitals, Chennai Super Kings find themselves in the 9th spot with one win and three losses from four matches. The team will return to action on April 8, where they will take on Punjab Kings at the New PCA Stadium.
