Former cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar on a live show at Star Sports spoke about retention of two big names from Indian cricket, MS Dhoni and Rohit Sharma. Manjrekar felt let down by CSK in terms of the retention of Dhoni and was not very impressed with Mumbai Indians when it came to retaining Rohit as players only and no leadership positions given to them. Manjrekar said it makes no sense to have Dhoni in CSK's side just as a cricketer as he brings with himself an enormous wealth of experience and can transform the game at his will. He finds it astonishing how Ruturaj Gaikwad has been considered as the new captain whereas Dhoni's presence, Manjrekar is of the opinion, makes a win by himself even if he doesn't play a single ball. He says something similar regarding Rohit Sharma's role with Mumbai Indians. The all-rounder Hardik Pandya was given the Mumbai Indians (MI) captaincy last season, leaving many fans and experts stunned. Also Read | Will Virat Kohli Lead RCB Again in IPL 2025? Here’s the Buzz Hardik Pandya-Led Mumbai Indians finished at the bottom of the table in IPL 2024 as they managed to win just 4 matches out of 14. The move of making Hardik as a captain turned out as a blunder for the franchise. Similarly, Gaikwad, who was appointed as the skipper of Chennai Super Kings, couldn't take the side into the top four. The side had to exit the tournament after finishing 5th at the end of league stage. Manjrekar believes that if Rohit is retained, then he too should be provided with the leadership role so that his best can be brought out for the team. According to him, Dhoni and Rohit both are proved as leaders because both of them have led teams to title triumphs through their respective franchises. Their leadership qualities were not utilized in his perspective. MS Dhoni and Rohit Sharma both have led Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians to the IPL title win not just once, but five times.
