The Ashes 2025 is breathing over the shoulders when the Australian team was approached by the ABC Sport to give one word for the two Englishmen, the captain Ben Stokes and the wicketkeeper Jonny Bairstow. When every Australian player approached and had a special word for both, the captain of the Australian Test side kept it simple. He tagged Stokes as a "player" and Bairstow as a "keeper." ABC Sport released the short video on their X account where they asked Pat Cummins, Sam Konstas, Beau Webster, Cameron Green, Josh Hazlewood Usman Khawaja and Glenn Maxwell. Barring Pat, everyone had words like "superstar," "skipper," "leader," "all-rounder," "captain," and "clutch" for the English skipper, Ben Stokes. For Bairstow, Usman had a laugh for his previous not-so-good memories against him. However, they replied, "attacking," "strong," "run out," "red hair," "stumped," and "angry." respectively Maxwell was not in the list for Bristow, though. And in the list of guys giving adjectives, Cummins had his consistent straight face. Watch the video here: Say what you will about Captain Pat, at least he's consistent!Catch every ball this summer. During the 2023 Ashes at Lord’s, tensions flared after Jonny Bairstow’s controversial dismissal sparked outrage among the crowd and MCC members. Bairstow had ducked a bouncer from Cameron Green and casually walked out of his crease, assuming the ball was dead. Australian keeper Alex Carey quickly under-armed the ball onto the stumps and appealed. The TV review confirmed Bairstow was out, triggering fury inside Lord’s. Fans chanted angrily, and the atmosphere turned hostile. As the players walked through the Long Room for lunch, Usman Khawaja and David Warner faced abusive remarks from several MCC members. Khawaja stopped to confront them, calling the behaviour disrespectful. Security had to intervene as the abuse continued up the staircase. The MCC later apologised and handed bans to three members for inappropriate conduct. Khawaja has since said he supports reviewing the lifetime ban if the fan involved shows genuine remorse.
