Former India cricketer Mohammed Kaif feels that India's ace pacer Jasprit Bumrah may miss the rest of the England series Tests and may retire from the longest format in the near future. Kaif said this when India is set to suffer another probable defeat in the fourth Test at Manchester, where Bumrah appeared to be far from his best. Bumrah's speed has declined in the current match, and he has failed to contribute as much as during the previous matches. He has been delivering the ball at speeds of between 130 and 135 km/h, a significant decline from what he came up with during the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy match opener at Headingley. His pace has kept declining with every passing Test he has played. Bumrah Grapples to Make an Impact in Manchester Test In the opening innings at Manchester, Jasprit Bumrah has taken only one wicket so far, that of England wicketkeeper-batter Jamie Smith. Kaif opined that supporters may have to get used to the Indian fast bowling attack without Bumrah in Test cricket if the trend is to be followed. In a video posted by Kaif on his social media handles, former cricketer said: "Jasprit Bumrah, I don’t think you will see him playing in the upcoming Tests. And he might even take retirement. He is struggling with his body. His body has totally given up." Also Read | Bumrah’s Pace Drop in Manchester Test: A Sign of Fatigue or Injury? Kaif said: "His speeds have been on the lower side in the Manchester Test. There is no speed in this Test. And he is a selfless person. If he feels that he is not able to give 100 per cent for the country, that he is not able to win the match, that he is not getting the wickets, then he himself will refuse. This is my gut feel" The former Indian cricketer added: "There is no doubt about his passion and commitment, but he is losing out on his body. His non-performance in this Test, clearly speaks that he will have problems in playing Test matches ahead and might not even play in Tests. After Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and Ashwin, the Indian fans have to prepare themselves for playing without Bumrah. I hope my prediction comes out wrong, but what I saw is what I'm speaking of." Even with him being in the fray, the Indian bowling has so far failed to test England in Manchester. Prior to this game, Bumrah had produced match-winning spells in the first and third Tests of the series at Leeds and Lord's, where he headed the attack with pace and command. But his slower pace and rhythm in Manchester have made his long-term place in red-ball cricket a matter of concern. Kaif's words have contributed to the alarm, with India poised to go 3-1 behind in the five-match series, leaving just one Test remaining to be played.
