In the latest development, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has taken a major step to strengthen its domestic participation, they have banned its players from participating in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) and other overseas leagues if they will be aligning with their domestic season. It is worth mentioning that the ECB has however provided an exception for the Indian Premier League (IPL). This strict decision is to make their players prioritize red ball cricket instead of going and participating in other leagues. The ECB saw this loop and they want to rectify it with some strict action. According to a report from the Telegraph, the ECB is looking to deny NOCs to players for domestic tournaments. As quoted by The Telegraph, Richard Gould, the ECB chief said: "We need to protect the integrity of our sport and the strength of our competitions in England and Wales as well. This policy gives clarity to players and professional counties around our approach to issuing No Objection Certificates. It will enable us to strike the right balance between supporting players who want to take up opportunities to earn and gain experience, while also protecting the integrity of cricket globally, ensuring we don’t undermine our own ECB competitions, and managing the welfare of centrally contracted England players.” The PSL is set to clash with England’s domestic season as it will be taking place in April 2025. And like every year, the IPL will take place on its scheduled duration and is expected to clash with the start of the English summer. However, the ECB will allow its contracted and non-contracted players to participate in the IPL but they are likely to miss Pakistan’s league.
