Amelia Kerr heaped praise on 16-year-old Kamalini after the Mumbai Indians won the Women's Premier League (WPL) title on Saturday. Speaking to broadcasters after the win, Amelia Kerr spoke highly of Kamalini’s crucial contribution throughout the season. Her quick cameo of 10 off 7 balls played a key role in Mumbai’s eight-run win in the final. "She (Kamalini) has been awesome, way better at this young age," Kerr said. She further spoke about how the WPL provides a platform for young talent like Kamalini to shine. "This is the beauty of this competition—you get to see so many young players step up and perform on the big stage," she added. After an exceptional T20 World Cup, where she was named Player of the Tournament, Kerr continued her dominance in the WPL 2025, finishing as the Purple Cap winner with 18 wickets. In the final, she dismissed Jess Jonassen and Jemimah Rodrigues to end with 2/25. In the final, she faced seven deliveries and scored 12 runs, including a six. Speaking about her experience, Kamalini admitted that she was nervous before the final. "I was a little nervous, but I enjoyed it a lot. It was my first six, so it was very exciting. I learned a lot about the mental side of the game while playing in the WPL," she said. Kamalini is one of several U19 World Cup champions featured in this WPL season. Her U19 teammates- Parunika Sisodia, Niki Prasad, and Shabnam also earned spots in the tournament. While Shabnam didn’t get a chance to play in WPL 2025, Niki Prasad showcased her potential. In the final, the U19 captain played a crucial knock, scoring an unbeaten 25 off 23 balls. She formed an important 40-run partnership with Marizanne Kapp, but it wasn’t enough to lead Delhi to their first title, as they suffered their third consecutive final loss.
