Shathira Jakir Jessy is all set to make history as she is to be the first Bangladeshi female umpire to serve in a senior World Cup. Jessy, aged 34, will achieve the laudable milestone in the forthcoming Women's World Cup set to begin in September 2025 in India. Jessy attributed her past performances in the recent past as the reason she was surprisingly shortlisted among the umpires to serve in the forthcoming mega event. The ex-international cricketer, who played three international matches (two ODIs and a T20I) for Bangladesh Women, has worked at several high-profile events such as the Under-19 Asia Cup, the Under-19 Malaysia T20 World Cup, and the Women's ODI World Cup Qualifiers recently in Pakistan. She was among the umpires in Bangladesh Emerging Team's home series against South Africa. Here is what Jessy shared while speaking to T Sports: "I had been waiting for this for so long – finally, the opportunity to officiate in the World Cup has come. I had hoped for a chance in the T20 World Cup, but that didn’t happen. God had something greater (the ODI World Cup) planned for me. I never even thought about it, I didn't even hope to get the opportunity this time. The last few series, the Under-19 World Cup, the World Cup qualifiers in Pakistan – all went really well. My performances were good, and maybe that's why I got this opportunity," Read also: Suryakumar Yadav Cleared for Asia Cup 2025 After Fitness Test Jessy will join Sharfuddoula Saikat (the official who officiated five games of the 2023 World Cup in India) in this elite roll call.
