Sharjah Cricket Stadium achieved history on Wednesday by turning into the first international venue of cricket to host 300 men's matches with the match that began the ODI series between Afghanistan and Bangladesh on Wednesday. This stadium has already seen 252 ODIs, 38 T20s, and nine Test matches before Wednesday. The first match here was that of an Asia Cup ODI between Sri Lanka and Pakistan in 1984. It won a reputation in the 1990s as one hub of scintillating matches and is also a venue where the Indian great cricketer Sachin Tendulkar has himself plundered seven centuries in his ODI career and has scored his 'Desert Storm' century against Aussies back in 1998. At this venue, as it speaks so far, no one else than two were successful in making seven hundreds in their career and included was a one of Pakistan's former blue-eyed boy Saeed Anwar. The West Stand of the stadium was renamed as the 'Sachin Tendulkar Stand' on his 50th birthday in 2023 and it was done to commemorate Sachin's glorious achievements in the game. In all, Pakistan has played in almost half of the games played at Sharjah, 144 matches with 93 wins. Sri Lanka with 87 games and India with 72 games are the other teams with the most games here. India last played at the stadium in 2000 with 35 wins at this venue.
