Mohammed Shami's childhood coach, Mohammed Badruddin, has informed that the star bowler will travel to Australia for the 5-match Test series after he is done with his Ranji Trophy performance. The star bowler Mohammed Shami had made a comeback in the domestic circuit after suffering primarily from his ankle injury and later from knee injury. Mohammed Shami has played his comeback Ranji match for Bengal in the fifth-round fixture against Madhya Pradesh at Holkar Cricket Stadium, Indore. Thanks to Shami's 4/54 in 19 overs, Madhya Pradesh got bundled out to 167. Coming out to the bat, Bengal scored 228 runs in reply in the first innings. Earlier, few reports claimed that Shami will play at least two Ranji Trophy matches before flying to Australia. While speaking to Indian Express, Badruddin too indiscated the same thing. He said, “He will be joining the Indian team after the Adelaide (second) Test. Now that he is back, proved his fitness, picked up wickets, he will be crucial for the team in the second half of the tour." Head coach Laxmi Ratan Shukla too confirmed such speculations. Shami's last appearance for the national team was in the 2023 ODI World Cup, where he concluded the tournament as the highest wicket taker (24 wickets). He later underwent ankle surgery, but his knee injury showed up during his rehabilitation. The Indian Test Team Captain Rohit Sharma addressed this issue while asked about Shami's absence in the New Zealand Test series. The speedstar has scalped 31 wickets from eight matches in Australia at an average of 32.16 and an economy of 3.55. With Shami in the Indian team, the bowling line will become a stronger one, having both Jasprit Bumrah and Akash Deep in it.
