Indian fast bowler Mohammad Shami revealed that his hunger to represent India helped him to recover from his injury. Mohammad Shami, who is all set to feature in the 5-match T20I series against England, is coming back in international cricket after injury. Shami played a crucial role in leading India to the final in the 2023 World Cup, battling an ankle injury. He then later undrewent surgey, but a knee swelling issue delayed his comeback. Presently, Shami is training with the Indian team at the Eden Gardens, Kolkata. On Monday, January 21, he attended an event organised by the Cricket Association of Bengal, where he expressed how he inspired himself to make a comeback. He said, "The first thing I feel is that the hunger to play for the country should never end. If you have that hunger, you will always fight back, no matter how many times you get injured." He emphasized the fact that a player counts days waiting to return for their team, be it their domestic or international team. Mohammed Shami, who had to sit out crucial events like the T20 World Cup and the five-match Border-Gavaskar Trophy Test series, emphasized that dealing with injuries is an integral aspect of an athlete's career. He concluded, saying, “If you are hardworking and committed, no injury can keep you away for too long. You will always find a way to return.” Shami will start his venture with the T20 series and will be featuring in the ODI series as well as in the Champions Trophy. For the marquee tournament, India will be travelling with three pacers: Mohammad Shami, Arshdeep Singh, and Jasprit Bumrah, who is yet to get a confirmation call.
