After a strong comeback in the Ranji Trophy, India's star fast bowler Mohammed Shami has been named in the Bengal squad for the upcoming Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT) 2024-25. Shami, who has been suffering from an ankle injury during the 2023 World Cup and later a knee injury, has been sidelined since then. The right-arm speedster announced his comeback to competitive cricket, picking six wickets in 43.2 overs in both innings, against Madhya Pradesh. Not only that, he played a cameo in the second innings, scoring 37 for 36 balls, helping Bengal to reach 338. Speculations are there that Shami may join the Indian team in the middle of the Border Gavaskar trophy. However, according to a report from PTI, Shami has been asked by the medical team to play a few more matches before he returns to the international team. Bengal in Group A has teams like Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Punjab.
