In a shocking move, Bangladesh cricket star Shakib Al Hasan confirmed that he has reversed his retirement from all formats of international cricket. Shakib, who has not represented Bangladesh for over a year, now wants to return for one last series before officially retiring. His last appearance for the national team came in the second Test against India at Kanpur in 2024. Shakib's international career came to an unexpected halt after he was named in an FIR related to an alleged murder case in August 2024. But even after the case surfaced, he played away series in Pakistan and India but did not play a match in Bangladesh again. Shakib was also a Member of Parliament with the Awami League Party but has not returned to the country since May 2024, after the government was removed from power. Shakib Wants Farewell Series in All Formats Speaking on the Beard Before Wicket Podcast, Shakib revealed that he never officially retired and wants to end his career on his own terms. He said he wants to play one home series consisting of all three formats before saying goodbye to the fans. Shakib said: "I am officially not retired from all formats. This is the first time I'll be revealing that. My plan is to go back to Bangladesh, play one full series of ODI, Test, and T20, and retire… I want to play a whole series and retire. That's what I want." He further went on to say that he is confident about getting a place in the team again. "I am hopeful. That's why I'm playing [T20 leagues]. I think it will happen… It's just a nicer way to say bye to the fans that they supported me always." This made him ineligible for Bangladesh's Champions Trophy squad, even though he could have played as a specialist batter. Shakib opened up about the suspension and said that he was exhausted during the match. The veteran said: "I think I was doing it a little bit intentionally because I bowled more than 70 overs [in one match]. I never bowled 70 overs in my career." He also explained how he corrected his action, he added: "I went to do the test, I failed… Then I had to train for a couple of weeks… I did two sessions and I was back to normal. I was like, 'it's so easy." Shakib now wants to go back home, play his dream farewell series, and finish off his long cricket career in front of fans who have supported him since the very beginning.
