Since August 5, when the ruling Awami League officially stepped down, several of its leaders have been arrested, further heightening Shakib's fears. As a sitting member of parliament, he's also facing an FIR tied to an alleged murder case, adding to his apprehensions. Protests against him in the city have made the journey unsafe. This Test match was set to be his final appearance in the format, and despite being included in the squad, his participation now seems uncertain. Shakib told ESPNcricinfo: "I am not sure where I am going next, but it is almost sure that I am not going home." Bangladesh revealed their Test squad for the opening match against South Africa on Wednesday, which is reportedly Shakib’s last Test match. Despite the earlier speculation, Shakib has been included in the squad after selectors confirmed they received the "green signal" for his selection. However, a group identifying themselves as "Mirpur Chhatro Janata" has notified the BCB of their plans to protest against Shakib Al Hasan in the stadium during the first Test match against South Africa.
