Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib al Hasan finally cleared his political stance on Wednesday (October 9), which in turn paved the way for his playing a farewell Test against South Africa in Bangladesh, as he had always hoped. As reported earlier, Shakib's dream of a farewell Test at home could come true. With the public apology now out, everything seems to be going ahead as planned. Earlier, Youth and Sports Advisor Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuyain said Shakib had to clarify his political stance before seeking security for the match. Shakib, a former lawmaker under Awami League government, was also linked with a murder case last month. He came out now with his stance on the students' movement two months after the fall of the Sheikh Hasina government. I offer my deepest respect and condolences to them and their families. Although no sacrifice can ever fully compensate for the loss of loved ones, the pain of losing a child or a brother is irreplaceable." He added: "For those of you who felt hurt or disappointed by my silence during this critical time, I sincerely apologies acknowledging your feelings. If I were in your position, perhaps I would have felt the same way." Shakib said in his apology that he was too quiet back then and sought public support for his last Test match-the one scheduled later this month. He appealed to his fans as he prepares to play what he believes is his last Test cricket game. He said: "As you know, I will soon be playing my final match. In my final match, in the closing chapter of this story, I want you all by my side. I want to bid farewell with all of you standing with me." He concluded saying: "I hope, and I don't just hope, I believe that in this final moment, you all will stand with me. You all will be there to close the story, a story where the true heroes are not me, but all of you."
