Bangladesh's star cricketer, Shakib Al Hasan, announced that he would retire from Test cricket after the home series against South Africa next month, pending security clearance. He also declared his immediate retirement from T20 Internationals. He said this while speaking to reporters in Kanpur ahead of the second Test against India. He said he had already communicated with the Bangladesh Cricket Board and the selectors about the decision. Known as one of the best all-rounders in cricket, Shakib wants to end his Test career back home. The two-match Test series against South Africa in mid-October will be his last. Shakib said, "It's my desire to retire. I've shared this with the BCB and the selectors, and they have agreed. We are trying to arrange everything so I can play those two Test matches, or at least the one in Mirpur, and finish my Test career there. If everything is sorted, I will be able to leave the country safely afterward," If Shakib does not receive the necessary clearance to play in the South Africa series, then his last Test may be the second test against India, starting at Kanpur on Friday. His quality of leadership, talent, and consistency made him one of the best all-rounders in the world. Shakib Al Hasan announced his retirement from T20 Internationals. He played all T20 World Cups for Bangladesh since 2007. Shakib said about his T20I retirement that, "The T20I chapter has been special, but it's time to let the next generation take over," "I felt my last T20I was during the final match of the World Cup. After discussions with the selectors and the board, I believe it's the right time to step aside. I am looking ahead to the 2026 T20 World Cup, and I hope the BCB finds new talent that can lead the team to success in that tournament." He even added, "As a Bangladeshi citizen, I have no issues returning home. The problem arises after I'm back. My concern is safety and security while living in Bangladesh, and this is something my family and close friends are worried about. I hope the situation improves, and a solution is found." The 2nd Test match between India and Bangladesh will take place on September 27 at Green Park Stadium in Kanpur. Both teams, after their arrival at Kanpur, faced a highly competitive practice session on a sunny day. India is leading with 1-0 in the two-match Test series against Bangla Tigers.
