India have named their women’s white-ball squads for the upcoming tour of England, with opener Shafali Verma making a comeback to the T20I setup after a brief absence. The tour, which begins on June 28, 2025, will start with five T20 Internationals followed by a three-match ODI series. While the ODI squad closely resembles the group that recently won the Tri-Nation Series in Sri Lanka, Shafali’s return is the standout change in the T20I list. The former U19 World Cup-winning captain was dropped from the Indian T20I team last year due to inconsistent form, but has since impressed in domestic cricket and in the Women’s Premier League for Delhi Capitals. Her aggressive style at the top has long been viewed as an X-factor for India, and her return comes at a time when the team is looking to add variety to its top order ahead of the T20 World Cup. However, she remains out of the ODI plans for now, with the focus on building stability ahead of the home World Cup later this year. She replaces Kashvee Gautam, who was injured during the Tri-Series in Sri Lanka. Kranti Gaud, who had replaced Kashvee mid-series, has retained her spot in both the ODI and T20I squads. India had handed out four new caps during the Tri-Series – to Kranti, Kashvee, and left-arm spinners Sree Charani and Shuchi Upadhyay. With the exception of the injured Kashvee, the others have been retained and earned their first T20I call-ups as well. Renuka Singh continues to recover from injury India’s dominant run in Sri Lanka, barring one upset against the hosts, was a step forward in their World Cup preparations. But injury concerns still cloud the build-up. Renuka Singh Thakur and Titas Sadhu were both unavailable for the Tri-Series and remain unfit. Renuka’s absence, in particular, is significant given her strong record in English conditions. Questions also remain around Shreyanka Patil and Asha Sobhana, who have not returned to action since missing the WPL earlier this year.
