In a move that would shock the Pakistan cricket aficionados, grizzled all-rounder Shadab Khan would probably stand in for Agha Salman as the T20I captain. Shadab, who had missed the Asia Cup because of a shoulder injury, is making steady progress and could play his T20I comeback in the tri-series against Afghanistan and Sri Lanka in November. Shadab Khan was among the most prominent omissions from Pakistan's Asia Cup 2025 squad. While he is still recuperating from the injury, though, a report by PTI has stated that the seasoned cricketer will replace the incumbent skipper, Agha Salman, as T20I captain. Shadab is presently Pakistan's official vice-captain but the PCB didn't announce his official replacement when the injury setback ruled him out of the Asia Cup. Now, it has been reported by the Press Trust of India that Shadab not only returns for T20Is but replaces Agha Salman as Pakistan's T20I captain. The right-hand batter was one of Pakistan's chief letdowns in the Asia Cup, scoring only 72 runs at an abysmal average of 12 and a strike rate of 80.89. To this, Pakistan had lost three times to India in the Asia Cup, further putting Salman's future as the T20I captain in doubt. His inability resulted in Pakistan's poor middle-order performance. More significantly, Shadab Khan, an all-rounder, can be directly assigned Agha Salman's position in the middle-order. Salman may have not bowled much during the Asia Cup, but Shadab could certainly be an improvement on him, contributing a lot of value as a proper all-rounder. In 112 T20Is, Shadab Khan has scored 792 runs at a strike rate of 140.2 and picked 112 wickets in the format. He has also displayed captaincy skills for Islamabad United, leading them to the championship in the Pakistan Super League. Therefore, if he is made Pakistan's T20I captain, it can address several issues for the Men in Green ahead of next year's T20 World Cup.
