The Bangladesh Women pacer Jahanara Alam has made shocking claims regarding sexual harassment from several high-profile officials from the Bangladesh Cricket Board. According to a report from Cricbuzz, Alam accused former bowler Manjurul Islam of curbing her career for not accepting his indecent proposal. She even attended an interview session on the Riasat Azim YouTube Channel on Thursday, where she spoke about the late Towhid Mahmud, who never spoke to her directly but had coordinator Sarfaraz Babu approach her. Alam accused that the BCB officials, including Manjurul, of misbehaving and insulting her. Alam had submitted an "observation letter" to the CEO, however was approached inappropriately by Sarfaraz asking her to "look after Towhid Bhai." She added, “The second proposal came from Manju Bhai during the 2022 World Cup. I decided to inform the BCB about everything that had happened over the past year and a half. I told Nadel Sir several times — he’d offer a temporary fix, but soon things went back to the same. I even informed the CEO." Alam recalled another time during the pre-camp in 2022 New Zealand tour when Manjurul asked her about her periods. Well, as per Alam's claims, it was not a normal cycle check-up like all physios do. She recalled, "Once he came near me, held my hand, put his arm on my shoulder, leaned close to my ear, and asked, ‘How many days has your period been?’ He already knew, since physios track players’ cycles for health reasons as per ICC guidelines. I don’t know why a manager or selector needed that information. When I said, ‘Five days,’ he replied, ‘Five days? It should’ve ended yesterday. When your period is over, tell me — I have to look after my side too.’ I just looked at him and said, ‘Sorry, Bhaiya, I didn’t understand.’" Manjurul was also accused of being touchy—placing hands on shoulders, pulling girls close, pressing chests, and talking near the ears. Alam said, "Even during handshakes after matches, we would extend our hands from a distance so he couldn’t pull us in. Among ourselves, we’d joke nervously, ‘He’s coming, he’ll hug us again.’" Read also: Bangladesh Women captain accused of assaulting! Board denies claim BCB Investigating Jahanara Alam's accusations Jahanara Alam is currently on a mental health break from the team. Recently she accused the current team captain, Nigar Sultana Joty, of harassing the juniors. Even though BCB denied the claims on Joty, they are seriously investigating the sexual harassment complaints brought by Alam. BCB vice-chairman Shakhawat Hossain said to Cricbuzz, “The allegations are quite serious, and so we have to sit and decide what should be our next course of action, and if required, we will certainly have an investigation." However, both Manjurul and Sarfaraz Babu have denied the claims. Manjurul said Cricbuzz, “What can I say apart from terming it as baseless. You can ask other cricketers whether I was good or bad." Babu said, “It’s unfortunate she is dragging a dead man I just want her to come up with proof instead of making baseless accusations."
