The issue of the Asia Cup trophy handover, which has been ongoing for over a month, is likely to be raised by the Board of Control for Cricket in India during the International Cricket Council quarterly meeting to be held on November 4 in Dubai. More than a month has passed since India won the Asia Cup 2025 and yet the trophy has not reached the BCCI headquarters in Mumbai. BCCI's joint secretary Devajit Saikia confirmed the board's decision to escalate the issue at the ICC meeting and termed the delay disappointing but nonetheless was confident that the issue would be resolved soon. BCCI Frustrated Over Delay in Trophy Handover The board seems to be getting increasingly frustrated with this, and Saikia said as much during an interaction with PTI Video. "Yes, we are a little unhappy with the way the trophy has not been given to us even after a month," he said. He further added, “We are pursuing the matter officially. About 10 days ago, we wrote to the chairman of the ACC, but there has been no change in their stand.” Despite the stand-off, Saikia sounded optimistic: “They are still keeping the trophy under their custody, but we hope that it will reach us in a day or two at the BCCI office in Mumbai.” If the issue is not sorted out, though, the BCCI will raise it formally during next week's ICC meeting in Dubai. Also Read | 'If You Want the Asia Cup…': ACC Offers India Trophy Ceremony in November Background of the Asia Cup Trophy Controversy The controversy began after India defeated Pakistan by five wickets in the Asia Cup final held on September 28 in Dubai, clinching their ninth Asia Cup title. The presentation ceremony unexpectedly saw the BCCI declining to receive the trophy from ACC President Mohsin Naqvi, who is also the chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board and Pakistan’s interior minister. After India refused, the trophy was taken away from the stage by an ACC official without explaining to anyone the reason behind this gesture. The Indian players celebrated their victory without the trophy amidst widespread discussion and criticism. Saikia explained the BCCI's position and said: "We decided not to take the Asia Cup trophy from the ACC chairman, who happens to be one of the top political leaders of Pakistan. But that doesn’t mean he can take the trophy and medals with him. It’s very unfortunate, and we hope they will be returned soon." In response, Mohsin Naqvi said he was ready to give away the trophy but only if an Indian representative personally received it. The continuous deadlock reflects BCCI's plan to raise the matter at the ICC level, adding more tension to the ongoing dispute.
