Before the Asia Cup 2025, former opener Virender Sehwag selected his three players whom he believes can be India's biggest match-winners in the tournament, Abhishek Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah, and Varun Chakravarthy. Team India will start its journey on September 10 versus the UAE, and Suryakumar Yadav will captain a 15-member team. India's Asia Cup team has a combination of youth and veteran players. With Suryakumar being entrusted with the responsibility of captaincy, his deputy is Shubman Gill, with the team also featuring names such as Hardik Pandya, Axar Patel, and Rinku Singh. Being in Group A together with the UAE, Pakistan, and Oman, the Men in Blue are looking for a good start as they retain their continental crown. Sehwag, however, named three players who, in his opinion, can turn games around individually. Here is what Sehwag said on Sony Sports: “I think Abhishek Sharma can be a game-changer, Bumrah is always a game-changer. Varun Chakravarthy, with his mystery bowling, was very effective in the Champions Trophy and in the T20 format as well. So, these are some game-changers for India who can win matches on their own,” Read also: Unfiltered Md Shami! Pacer jabs at Indian team's selection pattern Sehwag's first choice was young opener Abhishek Sharma, who debuted in July 2024. Ranked No. 1 in ICC T20I batter rankings currently, the left-hander is popular for his bold game and capability to take control from the first over itself. The second player on the former's list was ace pacer Jasprit Bumrah. The right-arm pacer's fitness has been a concern over the past few months, particularly after workload management kept him confined to only three Tests during the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy. He also sat out of the Champions Trophy because of a back problem. But Bumrah is India's most deadly weapon with the ball. In IPL 2025, he took 18 wickets in 12 matches at an economy of 6.67. Finally, he targeted Varun Chakravarthy, who may prove to be the X-factor with his mystery spin. Post his comeback, Chakravarthy has been in top form, topping the wicket-taking charts against Bangladesh and then decimating England in a five-match T20I series earlier this year, for which he was awarded the Player of the Series. With 33 wickets from his last 18 T20Is at a rate of little over seven, he has become an integral part of the T20I team.
