Sarfaraz Khan hammered a mammoth double-century (221*) as Mumbai gained the initiative against Rest of India (ROI) on the second day of the Irani Cup in Lucknow. Resuming at 185 for 4, they ended the day at 536 for 9, thanks also to contributions from captain Ajinkya Rahane, who scored 97, and Tanush Kotian with 64. Mumbai quickly built on that lead after the Day 1 score of 237 for 4. Sarfaraz and Rahane continued to kept the scoring, hitting few boundaries off Mukesh Kumar in his short spell. Rahane tried to avoid the bouncer and got edged at a short ball towards the keeper at 97. Mukesh then dismissed Shams Mulani for five with the second new ball. Kotian then joined Sarfaraz at the crease, and the two capitalized on some loose deliveries. Sarfaraz hit Manav Suthar for a four and a six, reaching his 150 runs while battling through cramps. Kotian quietly brought up his fifty in 104 balls before getting out to Prasidh Kumar, and soon after, Mohit Avasthi was trapped in front, leaving Mumbai at 463 for 8. However, Shardul Thakur and Sarfaraz stretched their partnership to 73 runs. They went airborne, hitting boundaries of Prasidh and Suthar. Thakur was finally given out in the last over of the day with Sarfaraz still unbeaten.
