Sarfaraz Khan has finished rehabilitation for his quadriceps injury at Bengaluru's Centre of Excellence (CoE). Having injured himself playing for Mumbai in the Buchi Babu Invitational Tournament, Sarfaraz has been out of action for more than a month. The 27-year-old, who appeared set for a comeback into the Indian Test side, couldn't feature in the Duleep Trophy, the Irani Cup, and the India A vs Australia A series. His India vs West Indies Test hopes were also shattered because of the premature injury. According to the Times of India, a week before the 2025-26 Ranji Trophy begins, Sarfaraz has regained fitness. He was already named in Mumbai’s probables, but the final squad will be out on October 10. Sarfaraz should now be available for selection for Mumbai’s first match of the season against Jammu and Kashmir at the Sher-i-Kashmir Stadium in Srinagar. While the tour starts on November 14, the veteran Mumbai batter would have represented Mumbai in four games in the Ranji Trophy, provided he remains fit. Shreyas Iyer's option to play a red-ball break may also benefit him, as he will not have too much of a competition for a middle-order role. Devdutt Padikkal would be the other contender in this regard, but he may get a preference because he is also included in the team for the West Indies Test series. Sarfaraz was dropped from India's Test team for the English tour and since then has been working on his fitness. He shedd 17 kilograms to get better at the game and has transformed into a 2.0 version of himself. Scoring runs has never been difficult for him, but perhaps his new level of fitness can help take him to another level.
