Former Pakistan captain Sarfaraz Ahmed is set to keep his role as the Test head coach for the upcoming tours to the West Indies and England, having reportedly received full support from the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). Even though Pakistan faced a disappointing 2-0 defeat to Bangladesh in his first stint as Test coach, sources suggest that the PCB is still confident in his leadership and has opted not to make any immediate changes to the coaching staff. While Sarfaraz seems to have a secure position, there’s still some uncertainty about the future of Test captain Shan Masood. The left-handed batsman is still in the running for selection and leadership roles on both tours, but a final decision on his captaincy hasn’t been made yet. Masood has led Pakistan in 16 Test matches and seven Test series, achieving just one series win while losing four and drawing two. Currently, he’s categorized in the PCB’s “D category” for captains, which reflects some concerns about his performance as skipper. On another note, T20I captain Salman Ali Agha is likely to be included in the Test squad for the England tour. The 25-Test veteran reportedly has strong backing from key figures within the PCB, positioning him as a potential candidate for a more significant leadership role in the future. However, sources indicate that no final decision has been made about whether Masood will keep the captaincy or be replaced. Pakistan is set to play a two-match Test series against the West Indies from July 25 to August 6 in Trinidad and Tobago. Following that, the team is expected to tour England for a three-Test series starting on August 19, although the official schedule is still pending confirmation.
