Pakistani-origin England pacer Saqib Mahmood has faced delays in securing visas for the upcoming England series in India. For that, Mahmood had to miss the team's pre-series training session in Abu Dhabi. However, the rest of the fast bowling squad, featuring Jofra Archer, Mark Wood, Gus Atkinson, and Brydon Carse, are attending the training session under the supervision of the England great James Anderson. Regarding Mahmood's delay, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has stayed silent but is simultaneously positive about Mahmood's visa clearance. They are expecting that all glitches will be cleared before the team departs for Kolkata. India will host the England team for the first T20I match on January 22 at Kolkata's Eden Gardens. England will tour India for a five-match T20 series and three-match ODI series. Saqib Mahmood himself faced such delay in 2019 when he had to tour India for the England Lions. Following the issues, he was sidelined from the tour. Howver, other Pakistani-origin players, Adil Rashid and Rehan Ahmed, have not faced any such difficulties. Another Pakistani-origin player, Shoiab Bashir, faced similar delays during the England Test tour in India in early 2024. For that, he could not play the Hyderabad Test. In 2023, Australia's opener, Usman Khawaja, had faced similar visa delay for his Pakistani origin and had to miss the flight.
