Sanju Samson is going through an actual turnaround in his career, thanks to the guidance of coach Gautam Gambhir and captain Suryakumar Yadav. For years he was just not getting consistent opportunities at the big stage, but lately has managed to capitalize on opportunities given before him. In fact, he made history by becoming the first Indian batsman to score two successive T20I centuries. That first century Samson made was against Bangladesh in the third T20I of the series last month in Hyderabad. Then he followed it up with another blistering knock of 107 off 50 balls in the first T20I against South Africa in Durban. His show has boosted his chances to get into ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026 though that is still far ahead. Despite the success of his son, Vishwanath has argued that Samson had not gotten too many opportunities throughout the years. He even blames former captains MS Dhoni, Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and head coach Rahul Dravid for not allowing Sanju to grow in his career. He said: “There are 3-4 people who wasted 10 years of my son’s vital career…captains like Dhoni ji, Virat [Kohli] ji, Rohit [Sharma] ji, and coach [Rahul] Dravid ji. These four people destroyed 10 years of my son’s life, but the more they hurt him, the stronger Sanju came out of the crisis.” Also Read | Sanju Samson's T20I Redemption: From Struggles to Success However, Vishwanath thanked the present coach and captain for their support. He credited Gautam Gambhir and Suryakumar Yadav who gave Samson the chance to revive his career. He added: “I am very happy, and I want to thank Gautam Gambhir bhai and Suryakumar bhai, if these two people did not come at this time, they would have dropped him from the team like in the past.” Since making his T20I debut in 2015, Samson could not get regular time, but recent showing proves that he belongs in international cricket. He has managed to score 701 runs in his T20I career.
