India's star wicketkeeper-batter, Sanju Samson, has successfully undergone surgery for a finger injury sustained during the recent five-match T20I series against England. The surgery took place on Tuesday, and doctors are hopeful that he will be recovering within a month. This timeline aligns with the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season, and thus the hope for Samson leading Rajasthan Royals (RR) is still alive. His recovery is expected to be complete by March, allowing him to return to action for the start of the IPL. Sanju Samson picked up the injury during the fifth T20I against England when he was struck by a fast delivery from Jofra Archer. Despite the pain, Samson continued batting and scored 16 runs off seven balls. However, with time, the injury worsened and forced him to leave the field early. India’s back-up keeper, Dhruv Jurel, replaced him behind the stumps and played a key role in India’s 150-run victory. Post-match scans revealed a fracture in Samson's finger. However, his IPL 2025 participation is unaffected, with doctors optimistic about his recovery. The expected month-long recovery period gives Samson enough time to regain fitness for the IPL, where he will once again lead RR, a team he guided to the playoffs in 2024. While his T20I form against England was underwhelming, scoring only 51 runs from five matches, Samson has been in good form in other formats. His memorable century against South Africa in December 2023 highlighted his potential. Despite missing domestic action, Samson’s leadership and skills remain crucial for RR’s IPL campaign. Fans are eagerly awaiting his return, hoping he can regain form and lead the team to a successful 2025 season.
