Rajasthan Royals (RR) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) both had a bad IPL 2025 season. RR ranked ninth and CSK ranked bottom at 10th position. Following their dismal performance, rumors are floating around that Sanju Samson could shift to CSK and play with MS Dhoni, if Dhoni plays another season. Samson was also spotted watching a game of Texas Super Kings in the 2025 Major League Cricket (MLC), which is owned by CSK. This has poured more fuel into the rumour. Cricbuzz has reported that CSK are keenly interested in a trade for Sanju Samson. The franchise is now considering options and searching for players they could send to RR in return. Samson was purchased by RR for ₹18 crore, and thus any trade would have to be a substantial one. It will be interesting to see who the player purchased by CSK in exchange for getting Ruturaj is. The CSK official told Cricbuzz: "We are definitely looking at Sanju. He is an Indian batter, who is a keeper and an opener. So if he is available, we will certainly have a look at the option of having him in our fold. Who we will trade him with we have not taken that call because the matter has not gone that far. But yes, in principle, we are interested." Even though CSK already have Ruturaj Gaikwad as their future captain, there may still be room for Samson in the team. Gaikwad had been absent from most of IPL 2025 because of injury, and MS Dhoni took over as captain. But CSK coach Stephen Fleming had made it clear that Gaikwad is the long-term captain of the team.
