Sanju Samson played two T20I matches for India against Sri Lanka in July 2024 but failed to score in both matches. With having an ordinary first series under India's head coach Gautam Gambhir, Samson was expected to lose his place from the team, but he has retained his position and is probably coming in to open the innings in the first T20I against Bangladesh. The match is scheduled to take place at the newly constructed New Madhavrao Scindia Cricket Stadium in Gwalior on Sunday, 6th October. Samson and Abhishek Sharma will be opening for India while Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill have been rested. He first stepped on the field of T20I in 2015 and has since opened the innings five times with a top score of 77 as an opener scoring 105 runs overall. He was in the team that won the T20 World Cup 2024, though he did not play in the single match. Samson is now selected ahead of Ishan Kishan and Dhruv Jurel for the Bangladesh series and will have an opportunity under his belt.
