Trouble is brewing in the Rajasthan Royals (RR) camp after a poor outing in IPL 2025. Team skipper Sanju Samson has allegedly informed the team management that he wishes to depart from the franchise prior to the mini auction of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026, which will reportedly happen later this year. As per a report by Cricbuzz, Sanju Samson has officially requested the Royals to trade or release him, so he can become a part of the auction pool. The same report further asserts that some members of his family have confirmed that the 30-year-old wicketkeeper-batter does not wish to be a part of Rajasthan-based team anymore. Batting Role Dispute and Team Dynamics One of the major reasons why Samson is looking to move on is reportedly related to his batting position. He wishes to open the innings or at least be able to pick his spot within the batting order. But with Vaibhav Suryavanshi rising along with Yashasvi Jaiswal, making room at the top has become difficult. The report also suggests other internal issues within Samson and the team that have contributed to the stress. Though CSK have apparently expressed interest, the Royals have been reluctant to release their high-profile captain, retained for ₹18 crore last year. According to the report, CSK is seeking options but tend to avoid letting players go, so a direct trade is not very likely. Unless the Royals negotiate on a special deal, the only viable option for CSK, or any team, to sign Samson is when he is released and goes into the auction. There have been other teams also making advances, but no deal has been forthcoming from anyone which suits RR's expectations yet.
