The first T20I of the series between South Africa and India ended in ecstasy for the visitors. Proteas and India clashed with each other in the first T20I in Durban on Friday, November 8. Batting first, the Indian team could manage to post 202 runs in the first innings, and they bowled out the hosts for 141 in the second innings. India won by 61 runs and took the lead in the series, hoping to put up a good show in the second T20I too. In the first game of the series, it was the turn of Sanju Samson of India to score some valuable runs. Playing as the opening batsman for the Men in Blue, Sanju Samson scored 107 in 50 balls, which continued his magnificent run of form in this format. The 107-run knock by Samson made him the joint seventh fastest Indian batter to complete 7000 runs in T20s, as he also beat former India skipper MS Dhoni in reaching a massive milestone by completing his century. Tied with Samson is former India cricketer Robin Uthappa with 269 innings, as the ace batter KL Rahul tops the list having completed 7000 T20 runs in 197 innings. This was the second consecutive ton for Sanju Samson in T20I matches; he also became the first Indian batter to hit two consecutive centuries in the format. In his inning, he struck ten sixes and seven fours. At the highest level, he displayed his potential, going up the order as an opener for the Indian team.
